Meet your private driver/guide in Wroclaw and drive south to the picturesque Klodzko Valley. This region is known for a beautiful landscape and natural areas almost left untouched by humans.

Right next to the border with the Czech Republic, there is a little town called Zloty Stok. The oldest mining and metallurgical center in the whole country can be found there. During the 1,5 hour tour you will visit the Gertruda Adit with museum part, including a huge exhibition of old maps, mining tools, muffle furnace, and 18th-century trolley for ore transport.

In the side galleries, there is a laboratory of J. Schärfenberg, a scientist who discovered arsenic during work on the elixir of life. According to a legend, this powerful weapon was used to poison Napoleon! Don’t forget to visit the treasury with 1066 “gold bars” equaling to 16 tons of gold that had been produced here for about 1000 years.

Your next step is the Death Pavement – the place where miners suspected of stealing gold were tortured or even killed. Continue the journey to meet the biggest local attraction – Poland’s only underground waterfall! From there you will be taken for a short ride in the underground Orange Tram.

After a coffee break, you’ll have an opportunity to visit an impressive fortification complex, dating the late seventeenth century: the Klodzko Fortress. The upper part is a repository of different objects, from old fire engines to local glassware. Moreover, it offers stunning views of the panoramic Klodzko Valley and Sudety Mountains. Going down to the undergrounds, you will pass through the extensive network of tunnels, the labyrinth-like cellars excavated by prisoners of war in the 19th century. The whole visit to the fortress takes approximately 2,5 hours.

The return to Wroclaw is scheduled in the late afternoon.
