The tour starts on the island of Ostrow Tumski, the oldest part of the city. This place was the capital of the early Polish state in the 10th century. What is a must to see here? The Archcathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, the oldest cathedral in Poland (as Pope John Paul II used to say: “this is where Poland started”) and the Gothic Church of the Most Holy Virgin Mary, built in the 15th century.

Nex step will be the charming Old Town, with its most admirable places: the Old Town Square and the Renaissance Town Hall. Here you will see the most famous clock mechanism in Poland, the goats of Poznan (in Polish: “Poznańskie Koziołki”) that butt their heads every day at noon.

From there you will stroll through the narrow streets of this historical area until you reach St. Stanislav’s Church (also known as “fara”), a precious pearl of the Polish Baroque, brimming with gilded ornaments and moldings.

To make the tour more enjoyable, you will visit the old brewery and the remains of a Prussian fort at the end of the day. It was modernized several years ago through a new glass and steel structure, creating today a unique shopping, artistic, and business center. Be careful and don’t spend all your money!
