Lower Silesian

One of the most fascinating areas of Poland, Lower Silesia has a turbulent history during which it was a part of various states. Situated in the south-western corner of Poland, it neighbours Germany and Czech Republic. It is known for its unique historic sights, including outstanding castles, charming Medieval towns and picutresque old health resorts, which typical spa architecture dates from the turn of the 19th and 20th Century. Visitors should also visit the churches of peace, built by Silesian Protestants following religious wars in the 17th Century. The southern border of the province, which is also a state boundary, is a strip of mountains, namely Karkonosze, Stolowe and Sowie, as well as many smaller ranges. Last but not least, it is Wroclaw, the capital city of the province, which draws tourists there. Its long history, unique architecture and lovely location on several islands contribute to its popularity.
