Situated along the western border of Poland, the region is known for its high density forests, sprinkled with numerous lakes. There are few large cities, and in general, it is a good holiday destination, a bit off the beaten track. Some more popular attractions include lakeside Lagow, Miedzyrzecz with outstanding fortifications built before World War II or picturesque little towns of Zary and Zagan. The other great attraction is Leknica National Park, located at the border of Poland and Germany. There are also two national parks: Drawienski and Ujscie Warty. A little pearl of the province is the little Paradyz, a Cistercian monastery housing annual festival of early classical music.
