The oldest part of the Sudety range, the Sowie Mountains, is a vast massif extending 25 km westwards from the Bystrzyca River valley to Srebrna Pass. Wielka Sowa, at 1015 meters, is the highest summit of these picturesque mountains. The region is full of attractive towns, however the biggest draw for most people is a complex of enormous underground objects, which the Third Reich constructed under the code name “Riese” (Giant). Why they were built is still shrouded in mystery, adding to the attraction.
